Heidi is a professor at the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the University of the Philippines.  Her first book for children entitled Abot Mo Ba ang Tainga Mo? won the Gintong Aklat Award for Children's Literature in 2002.  She is a member of the Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (Kuting), an organization of writers for children.  Her latest book, Polliwog's Wiggle, is dedicated to her frog prince, Sergio, and their brood of polliwogs, Laura, Laraine, Steffie, and Sam.
