In the late 1970s, the Nutrition Center of the Philippines approached Virgilio S. Almario to spearhead their Mental Feeding Program. Viewing ignorance as a disease, a book series was launched bearing the name Aklat Adarna to evoke the folk creature's healing powers. The program ended too soon for Almario who continued publishing the series through the Children's Communication Center (CCC). But because of its many publications for children, CCC eventually needed its own distributor and publisher. Thus, in 1980, Adarna House was born.
Right now, we have close to sixty (60) available titles among the storybooks and big books in print. However, if we count starting from the very first Adarna book, the more accurate estimate would be four hundred (400).
Though storybooks are our most popular products, our catalog also includes preschool books and posters, young adult fiction, graphic novels, and non-fiction — manuals and reference materials — for children and adults.
Yes, we do. Pilandok, from our adventure series featuring the Maranao folk character, usually attends our special events. Pilandok is the local term for "mouse deer."
Option 1. Go to Cubao. Across Gateway, there's a street between McDonald's and BPI (Annapolis St). There you will find the terminal for public transport jeeps heading to Roces. Get off at Roces corner Scout Tuason and look for Max's Restaurant along Scout Tuason. Our office is right across it. Look up from Max's and you will find Pilandok waving from our second-floor window.
Option 2. Coming from the north, go to Delta, the corner of West and Quezon Avenues. Take a jeep heading to Project 2 and 3. The jeep will make a right turn to Tomas Morato. When you see Sushi-ya and Sicilian on your right, get off. Take the street between Sushi-ya and RCBC. Our office would be at the next corner.
Option 3. Take a bus that is heading to or coming from Philcoa. Get off at Kamuning Road and take a jeep going to Pantranco or Welcome Rotonda. The jeep will make a right turn to Tomas Morato. Look out on your right for 7-Eleven which is on the corner of Tomas Morato and Scout Castor. Get off, cross the street, and walk along Scout Castor. Our office would be at the next corner.
Option 4. For those taking a cab or using a private vehicle, please refer to the location map.
