Adarna House, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), successfully conducted Teaching Beginning Reading: A Workshop for Educators on July 18, 2026, at De La Salle Lipa in Lipa, Batangas. The workshop gathered 100 education leaders, including 50 school heads and 50 teachers, united by a shared commitment to strengthening early literacy instruction in their schools and communities.
Recognizing the unique roles of school leaders and classroom educators in shaping young readers, the workshop featured parallel sessions tailored to each group. Through research-informed discussions and practical learning experiences, participants explored effective strategies for teaching beginning reading while fostering a collaborative vision for building strong literacy cultures within their schools.
The sessions were facilitated by Teacher Portia Padilla, PhD, who led the workshop for school heads, and Teacher Camille Quiambao, who facilitated the teachers' session. Through engaging discussions, collaborative activities, and classroom-based applications, participants deepened their understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction and gained practical tools to better support beginning readers while strengthening their leadership in literacy education.
Representing RMHC during the event were Celina Rosete, Program Head, together with Ciara Aspiras and Reina Infante, Program Assistants. Their presence highlighted RMHC's steadfast commitment to supporting educational initiatives that empower educators and create meaningful learning opportunities for Filipino children.
