What is WiKAHON?

WiKAHON is a collection of leveled readers designed to help children develop reading and writing skills in Filipino and English. Developed with literacy experts, Felicitas Pado, PhD, and Portia Padilla, PhD, it supports children, parents, and teachers on the journey to independent reading.

Comes in three levels: Pre-A, A, and B for different stages of literacy.
Available in English and Filipino.
Comes with 36 to 80 unique readers with activities and answer keys.
All readers celebrate Filipino identity, history, and culture alongside exploring topics of science and social science.
A provided Teacher's Guide makes it easy to use WiKAHON in your classroom.
WiKAHON Pre-A also comes with alphabet flashcards and word flip charts.
Each box can be used for guided or independent reading, as well as for enrichment and remedial sessions.

WiKAHON is available in three levels, in both English and Filipino.

WiKAHON Pre-A (Early Reading)

  • Contains 36 readers with post-reading activities and answer keys, alphabet flashcards, and sight words flip charts.
  • Covers oral language, book and print orientation, vocabulary development, alphabet knowledge, listening comprehension, and beginning writing and composition.

WiKAHON A (Independent Reading)

  • Contains 80 readers with post-reading activities and answer keys.
  • Covers oral language, decoding and word recognition, vocabulary development, fluency, reading comprehension, and spelling.

WiKAHON B (Proficient Reading)

  • Contains 80 readers with post-reading activities and answer keys.
  • Covers oral language, decoding and word recognition, vocabulary development, fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, and writing and composition.

Data-Driven Development

All WiKAHON Filipino readers were developed using the Adarna House Filipino Text Readability Index (AH FiTRI), a system that quantitatively measures the readability of a Filipino text.

WiKAHON English based its word counts on local materials such as WiKAHON Filipino and the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI), as well as foreign resources like the Informal Reading Inventory and K5 Learning.
