From January 29 to February 2, 2025, our Senior Editor, Kata Garcia, had the incredible opportunity to represent Anino Comics in France at the Angoulême International Comics Festival!
Angoulême is a quiet French city that, once a year, transforms into a vibrant hub for comic book lovers. As the second-largest comics festival in Europe—and one of the biggest in the world—it draws over 200,000 attendees, turning streets, storefronts, and even entire buildings into exhibits and pop-up events dedicated to the art of comics. This year’s spotlight was on Spain, which brought in more than a hundred artists and publishers to showcase their comic book scene alongside Spanish culture in general.
Beyond the exhibitions and celebrations, the International Comics Festival is also a major networking space for publishers, giving them a chance to introduce new stories to fresh audiences. Anino Comics proudly brought ten titles to the festival, sharing the strength and diversity of Filipino comics with the global stage:
-
My Ghost, Where’d You Go? – Dione Kong
-
Dead Balagtas, Tomo 1: Mga Sayaw ng Dagat at Lupa – Emiliana Kampilan
-
Sixty Six, Book 1 – Russel Molina & Ian Sta. Maria
-
Sandali – Mikey Jimenez & Mikey Marchan
-
Libing-Isa – Malayo Pa Ang Umaga
We were honored to be part of the Philippine delegation alongside other publishers and creators from the local comic book scene. Huge thanks to the National Book Development Board for making this happen!
What’s Next?
The adventure doesn’t stop here. We’re gearing up for the Frankfurt Book Fair this October, where the Philippines is the Guest of Honour! It’s an exciting milestone for Philippine literature, and we can’t wait to showcase even more of our stories on the international stage. Stay tuned!
