Anino Comics is set to bring together comics, drag, and the queer community in Vaklat! Before The Slay: An Anino Comics Teaser Event this coming June 13, 2026, at Viva Cafe.
The event serves as a special preview for Vaklat: Mga Nakakalokang Kuwento ng Draga, the highly anticipated debut graphic novel of acclaimed Filipino drag queen and performer Pura Luka Vega, illustrated by Jap Mikel—the newest release from Anino Comics.
Vaklat follows Vaklava, a young queer person discovering the art of drag for the first time. The graphic novel offers a vivid portrait of drag life in the Philippines—from backstage rituals and the plights of the community to the unspoken weight of violence, stigma, and discrimination.
In partnership with WhenInManila.com and the National Book Development Board, the afternoon gathering invites readers, art enthusiasts, and fans to celebrate queer creativity and Filipino komiks culture in a lively and welcoming space.
Guests can look forward to special drag performances from beloved drag queens, tarot readings, and yapping sessions filled with chikahan and laughter.
Vaklat! Before The Slay will take place from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Viva Cafe.
